Preparing to Convert from Concourse to Atriuum
We go live with Atriuum on January 25, 2021. We have scrambled these past several weeks cleaning up some messes we had made in Concourse over the years in preparation for converting to Atriuum. I wish we had given ourselves more time. If your library is considering Atriuum, please give yourself plenty of time to "get your house in order." We chose to eliminate audiocassettes from our collection, and that took quite some time going through the deletion process for those items. We are still…

When we switched to Atriuum we considered library cards, but it was going to be costly and a lot of work. We decided to use the self-checkout feature in Atriuum. While we have a volunteer in the library every Sunday morning, the library is technically self-checkout and people can check out any time the church is open. Many people use it on Sunday night, Wednesday night, and can even come in during the week if they want. Our staff and counseling ministry can use the library during the week, as well as moms who are at Bible study, or homeschoolers. We have instructions next to the computer for waking up the computer and logging in using a preset self-checkout button. Most schools use a similar checkout now instead of library cards because the children tend to lose them and most of our members have no problem with the self-checkout.
When they step up to the screen, they see buttons for each letter. They pick the letter of their last name (S-Smith), find their name and click on it, their username is automatically filled in and they simply enter their password. The hardest part for people is remembering their passwords. Atriuum customer support can help you set this up. We do have a few older members who don't want to use the computer. In that case, we have a spiral notebook beside the computer and they can write down their name and the title of their checkout, and we enter it for them.
Our team just completed a training seminar on the Atriuum software.
One interesting topic was using the software for self check-out at satellite stations, with the patrons putting in their library card number and password into the computer. This method requires giving a library card to each library patron with their assigned number. (Currently patrons fill out a paper check-out form , using only their name.)
I’m curious to know how many church libraries have issued a library card to their patrons. If you are using the Atriuum software, how well does this work?
