I will be training a teen in our church to input books into concourse. Is there a tutorial with screen shots that is already done or is this a wheel has to be invented.
You need to be a member of Church Librarians Network to add comments!
I am familiar with F1, and usually it helps me, but I still think a diagram, screen-shot or a tutorial will help a teen who is familiar with more visual things like ipods, and iTunes, and computers, and smart phones. If Book Systems doesn't have such a thing, then they need to have something like this. It could be put up on youtube with a password, and accessed that way- And one of their technies could demonstrate it. I think I'll call them. I went to several classes held at Ridgecrest, and learned a lot, but there was still a lot I had to teach myself. I'm just trying not to re-invent the wheel. Thank you for your help. I will go over to the technologies group, and ask my question about Atrium/Web o pac. I think there was a post about those 2 systems a while back.
Martha, I don't know of a tutorial with screen shots, but one idea would be to encourage the trainee to use the help files. Using the function key "F1" gives help for the particular screen on which you are working. When you choose a tab at the top of the "add-modify" screen, place your cursor in the first field below the chosen tab and press F1. Instructions for what information to place in each field is given for that particular tab content.
I have two adult workers to train and I have just convinced myself that the "F1" help is the way to do this. I believe it would be better for them to learn that they have the help at their fingertips than to try to find it in a document that I make up!
That being said, when you choose the "Help" button on the main menu, there are several guides that may be searched or printed in PDF format. I sometimes just print out a certain section to use so the whole guide doesn't have to be printed. (To have to demonstrate at a conference, for instance.)
If you try this idea of training using the F1 key, let us know how it works for you!
Just wanted you to know that the Tech agent that I spoke to at Concourse promised to pass on my idea of an introductory demonstration of the basics of Concourse- I may have spoken out of turn, but I referred him to you, and to Eva Nell Hunter, and this blog site. I do not know if anything will come of it. He was able to send me a screen capture of the navigation pane, and will assist me in getting our computer to do that. In addition, I will print out the tab directions for each one, and have something basic on how to classify from the class I took. Then I will do a basic "this is a football" how to enter different types of books. The teenager will not be starting with anything complex, but commentaries on Genesis with only 1 or 2 subject tracings. That's my plan- we'll see how it works, and what comes of an idea. Ideas take people to implement. If it will not help us now- perhaps it will in the future.
right now, I'm just putting down on paper exactly (this is a football type directions) on what I do, and how I do it from the time I log on to Concourse from Windows. I was trying to do some screen captures, but it will not let me do it. But I definitely need some.

That's a good question. Would like to know that answer also as we have been training a teen to do entry, too.
See reply below on training....
