Ruthe Turner sent this email to their friends over the weekend. She let us include us in her Friends. Interesting to read how they are handling their difficult situation.

Dear Friends,

We wanted to let you know that your library items have been renewed until Sunday, September 8th.  However, you can return them anytime before then in the book-return box located on the first floor of Horner. That box is located near the windows and says in big letters “Truett Library Book Return.”

We are currently adding a lot of new titles on our ebook site.  If you do not have access but would like to, just reply to this email.  We will send you your account number and pin number as well as instructions.

Park Cities Baptist Church has graciously offered memberships for Truett Library members.  Their Summer hours are Wednesday mornings and Sunday mornings.  Several of us visited it last week and then went to lunch.  We are going to repeat that again this week, Tuesday August 20th, 10am.

We will not have an update on the condition of the library until the fire department deems it safe to go into the basement, and until they finish their investigation.  In the meantime, please pray for the ministry of Truett Library during this difficult time.

Blessings,

Ruthe Turner, Director

  • UPDATE from Ruthe on November 1

I have happy news to share!!  Our temporary little children's library (the Library Nook) is up and running and beautiful.   It's sunny and pleasant.  It's not totally complete, as we are still in the process of getting our replacement books (plus some new ones) and still making improvements to the room.  I'm sending pictures.

Then more happy news!!  Plans are in the making for our newly restored Historic Sanctuary as well as other parts of our campus that were destroyed during the fire. The campus is going to be beautiful, AND there will be a full library located on the first floor -  NOT the basement anymore.  It will take at least 1 to 2 years.

  • UPDATE from Ruthe on September 20

The new furniture arrived, and several dads came and had a great time putting it together!

A Big prayer request is that the bookcases get here in time for our hopeful opening the night of our Fall Fest Oct. 25th.

I'm pretty pumped at working in a sunny new room after 15 years in the basement.

Please thank the other librarians for their prayers. God is at work - we can see it!

By the way, the library has a Facebook page "Truett Memorial Library," and I'm pretty good at posting pictures etc., and invite any of the librarians to "like it."

    Love,

    Ruthe

  • UPDATE from Ruthe on Saturday, September 7
Things changed Thursday. ?? BAM!  Prayers answered!

I was approved to order the shelving for the new temporary childrens' library, and I was approved to order the replacement furniture - desks, etc. AND approved to start ordering the replacement books!!!

I will also start ordering the adult books and house them in a building across the street from the campus and do my best to keep the adult patrons happy.

It's going to be a challenge, but WOW!

Thank you, each one of you dear ladies, for your prayers and support and concern.
    Ruthe
  • Request from Ruthe:

I would also love input on purchasing shelving. We know about the Library Store, Demco and School Outfitters, but we are open to other recommendations.  The big problem is getting the shelving fast enough.

  • Request from Ruthe:
Do you know other libraries that use Book Systems that have experienced a similar catastrophe that involved replacing all the books. We would like to know what other libraries have done in situation like ours.

We are so glad to have Atrium. The ability to pull reports during this time has been amazing.Their help is always useful.
  • This is such sad news, but I am inspired by the "can do" attitude of Mrs. Turner et. al.  I will remember them and their church in my prayers.

  • Praying for Ruthe & Jerry as they deal with this difficult situation. It's great to hear what Park Cities Baptist Church is doing.  What a blessing to see the Body of Christ working together!

  • My heart hurts for Ruthe and her church.  I'm praying for Ruthe, their Library Ministry, and FBC Dallas.  May the destruction caused by the fire open doors for a renewal of the Library Ministry.  Although it may not look the same, I pray the Lord will continue to reach people through quality Christian resources and services at FBC Dallas.
