Library Challenge

Last February I wrote about a challenge we issued to the adults and youth of our church, "Read 10 in 2010".  It was a successful challenge.  Sixty people accepted the challenge.  Thirty-three read at least 10 books and many read far more than ten.  Although some didn't quite meet the challenge, they read some when they otherwise might not have and added to the fun of the challenge.  The interest ran high throughout the year.  Eighteen were first time users of the library.  There were more than 1200 books read by these sixty people.  One teenage girl decided early on that she was going to read more than any of the adults.  In June I challenged her to take the ultimate challenge and read 110 in 2010.  She surpassed that by reading 160 books.  The runner-up was a lady who read 94 books.  Our goal was to get new readers and increase our circulation.  We met both goals.  The circulation in 2010 was an 174% increase over 2009.
