As a storyteller, I have many precious memories of visits to libraries for story time.  Many were public and private school libraries, but there were the public libraries in Virginia who invited me for workshops and for summer series on a certain theme.  Of course, Christmas was a favorite time for stories, and I have a quiver full of them.  I love to bring poetry to every program, for children as well as adults for everyone loves poetry.  There is no doubt in my mind that the greatest story ever told is the story of God's love for the human race--that he loves the world so much that he gave his Son to live among us so that we could walk in his steps and find the right path!  And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.  And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.  And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.  For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior which is Christ the Lord.  And this shall be a sign unto you; you shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.  Suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, good will toward men.  Luke 2:8-14

Here is a poem from an unknown author that I love to bring to my programs to adults:  "It is Christmas in the mansion, Yule-log fires and silken frocks://It is Christmas in the cottage,  Mother's filling little socks.//it is Christmas on the highway, in the thronging, busy mart;//But the dearest, truest Christmas Is the Christmas in the heart."

Merry Christmas to all church librarians!  Maxine Bersch-Lovern

  • Sandra, I thought I had lost the first note because a message appeared saying, "We're sorry.  Please enter a comment."  So I wrote another one, and pushed the add button and BOTH of them appeared! Heavens!  I guess you think I am addled!  No, just not smart about how to use this software.  MBL

  • Sandra, thank you for your sweet response to my greeting.  I recently visited a friend in Timpson, TX and did Esther at her church, FBChurch of Timpson, TX!  I found a chapter of the National Storyteller's League where I have held membership since I wa 32 years of age--located at Arlington TX.  Turned out the president was a friend that I had met at one of our national conventions!  I attend the meetings and stay active .  My storytelling is one of my greatest joys for it is a gift from God and He takes a personal interest in how i use it, and so far, he is pleased to grant me extra time to carry out his purposes and bring glory to His Name!  Hallelujah!  Merry Christmas.  I am sending you a copy of my Christmas letter!  luv. Mackie

Hello, Sandra.  Thank you for the sweet response to my greetings.  I recently had an opportunity to do Esther again at First 'Baptist,Timpson, TX.  I have found a local league of my National Storyteller's League at Arlington, TX.  It is the same  I have held membership since age 32!  I have been pres. of the Richmond league twice and corresponding secretary on the national level.  I never ever let them enter my name for pres. on the natl. level because I did not have the time for that.  I am not a joiner for the sake of joining.  I chose to give the Lord first place in my life and I dropped all outside activities except my church and the storytelling but he has always added His blessing to that work and allowed me to use it to bear fruit for Him.  He has spared my life and led me in path

s that I never dreamed of!  What a wonderful Savior!  Lots of Love, Mackie

  • Thank you so much, Mackie!!! I can "hear" you speaking, and pausing and everyone just barely leaning forward waiting for the next line! You continue to bring joy through your stories. Thank you and I pray you will have a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful new year! God bless!
