card making

Our library has a card making ministry that raises about $900 a year for the library.  The congregation donates used greeting cards and volunteers use them to make new "recycled cards". Then the congregation buys them off a card rack located in the library for a free will donation. At Christmas the group makes boxes and bags out of the used cards and sells those also.

    The bookmarks are 2 1/2 by 2 inches of decorative cardstock folded in half. The open edge is cut with a scissors that makes a scalloped edge.  We buy a roll of magnetic tape and cut off two 1 1/2 in. pieces.  Attach to the insides of the folded paper.  Make sure that the magnetic strips match up.  Suggested donation is three for $1.00.I

    The cardmakers start with a new piece of cardstock (we buy on sale). They fold and cut the cardstock to appropriate size.They cut out the picture page of old card, cover front of cardstock, cut out verses and put on decorative or contrasting paper on the inside maybe using fancy edged scissors, .  We buy and get donations of new envelopes and we stamp the back of "new" card with label that says "recycled craft by Friends of the Library and the name of our church. Cardstock scraps are used to make magnetic bookmarks that we sell.

    I will like a little more information (instruction) on the actual card making process, if you could possibly give me some ideas. Our church has a Christmas card delivery within our church for donations to Foreign Mission Offering. This might be a good way to reuse the cards. Thank you
