  • Our meeting at First Evangelical Free Church of Fullerton 9-29-12 was well-attended and very fruitful. Following the secretary and treasurer reports, there was a report of church eBook consortiums in Texas, thanks to an update from Glenn McEowen.

Elections were held and a new board was installed: Colleen Greene, president; Valerie Wray, vice president, Mary Newman, secretary; Wendy McClenahan, treasurer; Joanne Ladewig, event coordinator.

A list of prayer needs was taken up for inclusion with the minutes.

The location and format for the spring meeting was discussed and approved: a tour of four libraries in the Santa Clarita area on March 30th, 2013.

Hostess Valerie Wray (Library Manager) demonstrated her library's website and circulation system on a monitor in the meeting room, after which Colleen Greene demonstrated what a library website utilizing eBooks looks like and how it is used.

Following the close of the meeting, Valerie gave us a tour of her fabulous church library that includes a snack bar and eating area, and is a very popular and busy destination for church attenders on Sunday and several days during the week.

Our new president got quickly to work and set up a website for us. Take a look!     http://www.socalchurchlibraries.org/home

If you know of any church librarians in the Southern California area that are "winging it" on their own, let them know they are welcome to contact us and attend our next meeting!

  • ECLA Spring Meeting Report:

We had a very fruitful meeting at Rose Drive Friends Church in Yorba Linda on Sat. March 10. Sharon, our treasurer, updated us on the bank situation and the change in banking our account. Wendy is taking over the treasurer's responsibility for Sharon until the fall meeting. Several new members joined our ranks.

We had an excellent discussion about establishing a church library consortium in Southern California and will be setting up a committee/task force to continue the process. Our president, Deanna, has been working very hard on this with the vendor (Overdrive), and provided handouts.

We had a report on our Fall Festival of Authors, which was very successful. We discussed various options for future author events, possibly a "mini-conference" with a speaker and workshops.

We had many sign-ups for a summer tour of Biola University's library. At the end of the meeting we surprised our very dedicated president Deanna with gift certificates as a thank you for her years of faithful sevice to our organization. Lastly we toured the Rose Drive Friends Church Library, then met at Polly's for lunch before traveling home.

  • Collen,

We're looking forward to getting our eBook/church  library consortium committee up and running. Appreciate all the help and mentoring you'll be able to give us!

  • After I finish my annual faculty portfolio this week, I'm going to pull together some ebook/e-readers tutorials and primers for Rose Drive's church library. I'm also doing a similar primer for them on using LibraryThing as a discovery tool to allow patrons to browse and search your physical books collections online for dirt cheap.

I'll try to remember to hop on here occasionally and share the links -- I'm just not at all a fan of NING, so I don't expect to be on here too often.

  • Thanks, Colleen - we enjoyed being on your campus!

I'll try to post a few photos soon.

  • Good meeting everyone today! We were happy to host you at Rose Drive Friends Church!
