The conference table came with the room, so to speak. In my opinion any library needs to be as flexible in its design as possible. I worked in one school library where 90% of the shelves were cases on wheels and we moved them to accommodate visiting authors and storytellers as needed. we could also rearrange for special meetings, learning needs or reading habits. I think that to keep the church library as ministry capable as possible - flexibility would be a key. I would love to see images of your library or even visit it one day!
Marilyn - My church wants to remove a range of shelving and four carrels to make room for tables and chairs to hold small group sessions. This arrangement looks nice and workable (well, for your library - I think McFarlin may be a little smaller).
