I have been alternating between Charles Martin books and Cathy Gohlke books. I am filling in the the ones I had not previously read and am going from oldest to newest.

Lately I have read -- When Crickets Cry (M), The Dead Don't Dance (M), Maggie (M), Where the River Ends (M), Band of Sisters (G), Thunder and Rain (M), Promise Me This G), Unwritten (M), Saving Amelie (G), A Life Intercepted (M).  I am currently reading Secrets She Kept (G).

  • I'm currently reading Morgan Busse's book Daughter of Light.  I love her books!

I've also been listening to a podcast series (well, a couple of them really) about the Narnia books, and re-reading each one (for the umpteenth time) afterwards.  I've been reading them for 50+ years and it never gets old...and I see so much more in them than I did when I was a child.

  • If you're looking for WWII novels, I can recommend authors Kate Breslin and Amy Lynn Green. Green's "Things We Didn't Say" is particularly good.

  •  I can't wait to get the book Jenn is reading! I'm reading a book right now that is a perfect novel for my church's mission: Love, Grow, Serve Go. Here's a summary of the story.

Will you answer the call? Five ordinary people are brought together, bound by a common calling to see God at work in their lives-and join Him. One eagerly accepts but has her own ideas about how God's plan should play out. One feels she is too ordinary and of little use. One tries too hard to make things happen. Another continues their life seeking His ways. Yet another wants nothing to do with Him. Join the journey-and start your own. Find your God-given purpose as you open the eyes of your heart and are enlightened. "I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people." Ephesians 1: 18

  • Those are all great books!  I am currently reading Chasing Shadows by Lynn Austin.  It was the library book club's choice for July.  Next month we are reading All Together in One Place by Jane Kirkpatrick.

    • I was about to discard "Saving Amelie" I decided to read it first. Wow! It is s GOOD book! Needless to say, it didn't get weeded. Now, if I can just get someone else to check it out.

      • Cathy Gohlke does a great job of tying togother actual persons and events to her stories. As a result of reading Secrets She Kept, I have just finished reading The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom (I saw the movie years ago, but had not read the book.).  And, as a result of reading Saving Amelie, I will soon be reading Bonhoeffer's The Cost of Discipleship.

I have now moved on to reading Gohlke's Night Bird Calling.

        • And if you read Gohlke's Night Bird Calling, you must follow up with A Hundred Crickets Singing.
