The Space Trilogy, CS Lewis

This is science fiction by CS Lewis. I'm enjoying it right now because I'm fairly new at running the church library and I've decided I need to get smart on the classics first. (Side bar: has anyone NOT read the Narnia books?)

I'm currently on Prelandra which is the second book in the series, but the tome I'm in is a special edition publication putting all three books into one. I think it's fascinating that I'm halfway into the second book before the protagonist, Ransom, actually professes that he is a Christian, and we still don't know much about him other than his scholarly background. He actually is a prophet of sorts to the new[er] creation of the humanoid The Lady who seems to be caretaker to God's/Maleldil's creation on Venus/Prelandra.  Lewis' characters are always just so in-the-moment and their meditations are completely purposeful to his message (or should I say HIS message?).

So often I've been a passive audience to writers, but Lewis really engages me! I often stop reading just to think about what is being said.

Also, I'm fascinated with the change in role that the character Weston plays. He is bad enough in the first book, and then in book two, he is possessed by Satan himself. I'm really hoping that the series will see Weston redeemed in Christ and made a new creation!

  • I think C.S. Lewis' The Space Trilogy, as well as The Chronicles of Narnia, are both good series to get young readers to think in Christian ways!
