Cape Light series

I have been made aware of some questionable content in the Cape Light fiction series by Thomas Kinkade.  What is your library's policy on including casual consumption of alcohol in fiction stories?

  • I have this series and had no problem with it until book 7, A Christmas To Remember.  In chapter four, the minister tells one of his parishoners that he is not sure there is such a place as hell.  Not agreeing with this statement, I decided to place a disclaimer statement inside the front of the book stating  that our church is not in agreement with the explanation of theological issues on those pages.

    • I appreciate your reply.  I hadn't thought of a disclaimer.  I have trouble justifying the wooden angel that might heal people, too.
      • I don't remember this reference; I'll have to look it up.  Is it in the same book?  Thanks.
        • Book nine and possibly also book eight. I don't have the titles in front of me right now.  Sorry.  I am interested in how you perceive that part of the story.  Thank you for giving it some thought.
  • I have this series, and many other mystery/suspense by Christian authors. All of them are weaving in Christian Morals and/or the salvation message into their stories. Read the books by Col. Oliver Norththe plan of salvation is in the books. These are a great way to reach a non-christian that would NOT read a book about Salvation from our religiion section. If you are open to the community as we are the community usually comes in for entetainment. But often after I have gotten to know them I can make suggestions to other types of reading selections, and will suggest items by authors like Max Lucado, Chuck Colson, and many others.
  • The Bible teaches not to be drunk, but does not say not to drink. Many strong Christians drink. I do not believe we should because we need to always set and example and you never know when you could cause a potential alcholic by seeing you drink and they follow you and it gets them. In other words don't be a stumbling block. I have this series and I think it is an excellent series. I think we would have to remove a lot of good fiction that points to our Father if we start getting into this type of thing. We need to be careful and remember that unless the Bible tells us something is wrong, we can't tell others.

    • Thank you. I think this is a good perspective.
