Let's talk Book Clubs and Reading Groups
On October 21, 2023 while we are together in Richmond, we are going to share our experiences and ideas about book clubs. I thought it would be fun to continue to share our stories beyond the conference. So I am setting up a forum for our conversations going forward about our book clubs and reading groups so that I can put the link in our handout. Can't wait to be with all of you on Zoom. Surely do wish I could be with you in person! Morlee

Hi, I am the church librarian at Mt. Pleasant Baptist in Colonial Heights. I am new to not only this site, but librarianing in general . I saw that there are area mentors, and I would love any help with getting our library ministry organized and MINISTERING (instead of just existing, collecting dust, and marching towards obsoleteness). Colonial Heights is about 15 miles south of Richmond.
I was in a church yesterday where they just had a large plastic tote on top of a table outside the door. It had a sign on it saying book return.
jhite@libertylive.com Lynn here we have senior adult men who like to do projects and repairs around the church. Have you thought about asking one of them if they could build you one. Another simple solution would be a piece of plywood add the wheels to the bottom corners and sit a plastic container on it and roll it under the drop slot. Joan Hite
Help! Does anyone out there have an indoor wooden book return cabinet that they don't want anymore? I am looking for one for our church, Newington Baptist in Gloucester. I can't afford a new one...as they are very pricey.
Carolyn Oakley - did you get the help you need? If not, Nancy King could get you connected with your area mentor. allenandnancy@yahoo.com
Melanie, Nancy Boyd (Liberty Baptist Church, Hampton) is the mentor for your neck of the woods; however, right now she is in Florida, should be back in the spring! Meantime, if you would like to visit my church library (Temple Baptist Church, Newport News), I would be happy to have you stop by. Our work day is Wednesday afternoons from 1:00 to 6:00. We use Concourse (Book Systems) for our library inventory. Let me know if you would like to come over.
I am back and the website is as follows--http://vbla.wordpress.com and the website tells you all about the March conference at Eagle Eyrie (Lynchburg) and info. about Eagle Eyrie, etc. You will find what you are looking for there, and all these people will be glad to hear from you! mbl
get in touch with Jewel Barger, who lives at Chester, VA, but I know her personally and she is past president , and keeps in close touch with all the officers and members and she will be able to give you information as to who lives close to you there and can act as a mentor. I know that you will not have a problem because that area has many of members of the Virginia Baptist Church Librarians Association (VBCLA) and you can also go to the new website. If you enter the VBCLA into the search, I am sure you will come up with the information for the new website which just opened this past week and the exact name has slipped my mind. I will go back to my email and find it and try to come back and enter it for you. In that way you can find the newsletter, which I believe is also published on the web and the way to contact the officers will be given. I'll come back in a few minutes and give you the new website. Hello to all. I just now passed my 93RD!!I am going to be going to Norman, OK to speak at widow's luncheon. After that, I will visit with my niece and then go back to Garland to resume working on the book. I know you will have a great meeting in March and remember the scripture, be not weary in well-doing! Remember the hub of the wheel is the library! Luv. Mackie
