From Lee Smith (VACLM):
I wanted to share with you all that Maxine passed away yesterday afternoon in Dallas. She was 101 years strong. She went into the hospital Friday with a perforated viscus. She took a turn Saturday overnight and passed away.
We can all rejoice that she didn't suffer long and is now with her Lord and Savior. Mackie was a faithful Christian, longtime member of VCLA, past director, church and public librarian, professional storyteller among a lot of other titles. I am sure she is telling stories, singing, and who knows what else with Mackie. If you have never checked out her website/blog, do yourself a favor and read some of her entries at maxinebersch.com.
I know the family is probably not going to do a memorial service at this time because of Covid. She is being flown back home to Richmond and will be buried beside her first husband Frank at Westhampton Memorial Park. I will let you know more when I hear of the arrangements.
Please keep her children Frank Jr, Dana and Pat along with the rest of her family in your prayers during this time.
Mackie's motto - Look Up, Laugh, Love and Lift
