The Oregon City Carnegie Library stands as a lasting symbol of the community’s commitment to public access to knowledge. After decades of short-lived subscription libraries and reading rooms, citizens formally supported a public library in 1910 with a special tax. This opened the door to Andrew Carnegie’s library program, which funded buildings across the nation on the condition that cities provide land and ongoing support.
