    Just a reminder that today, Sunday, October 15 is the last day to register and guarantee meals for the Fall Conference next weekend. The registration fee for VCLA members is $50 and non-members $60. We will accept walk-ins at the conference but meals are not guaranteed. You can also join us via Zoom for a registration fee of $20. Payment can be made either through PayPal, Zelle, or at the conference. Search for us any of the following ways on PayPay and Zell: Virginia Church Library Association, vachurchlibrary@gmail.com, or 804-306-3862. We will need to know by today if you are planning on coming and paying at the conference.

    All of the conference information like the schedule, registration form, etc. can be found on our website at https://www.vacla.org/upcoming-events/fall-2023-conference/. We hope you will make plans to come and join us for a day of training and fellowship with other church librarians.

    VCLA Fall Conference


    Just a reminder about the upcoming fall conference, Celebrating 65 Years of VCLA, on Saturday, October 21. The deadline for the scholarship application and early discounted registration fee is tomorrow, October 1. The price for in-person will increase to $50 for VCLA members or $60 for non-members. You can also pay the registration fee either via Zelle or PayPal. You can find us by searching either by name for Virginia Church Library Association, by email address vachurchlibrary@gmail.com, or by phone (804) 306-3862. Transaction fees do apply.

    If you are planning on applying for a scholarship, please let us know by either emailing the information to vachurchlibrary@gmail.com or if you are mailing it so we will know for planning purposes. The registrations have been slowly coming in but there’s still plenty of room for you to register and join us. We do hope you will make plans for yourself and your library staff to come and join us for a time of training and fellowship.     We have more information on our upcoming One-Day Fall conference! This training event is open to any church librarian - so share with your community churches! This conference is set for Saturday, October 21, 2023 at North Run Baptist church, 2100 Lydell Drive, Richmond, VA 23228. Classes and meetings will be available either in-person or via Zoom. The church is handicap accessible. Four classes offered - at this time - is Atriuum A to Z, Book Clubs 2023, Classification, Upcycle Weeded Library Books into Library Displays! Special guest is a Richmond author, Holly Desvignes, and she will be discussing her books and will have them available for purchase!     What a wonderful time we had at Bethel United Methodist Church for our regional Coffee and Chat! 11 people attended representing 8 churches!! A great time of fellowship and learning!

    Our Coffee & Chat at Bethel United Methodist is coming up this coming Saturday, June 10. Today, June 5 is the last day to guarantee lunch. Please email vachurchlibrary@gmail.com if you are planning on attending for planning purposes whether you are eating lunch or not.     We have a date for our Fall Conference!! "Celebrating 65 Years of VCLA!" North Run Baptist Church is hosting our Fall One-Day Conference on Saturday, October 21, at their church located at 2100 Lydell Drive, Richmond, Virginia. More info concerning workshop titles, etc., will be coming in August...so stay tuned!

    Our July Coffee and Chat is set for Saturday, July 29, at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 401 Lucas Creek Road, Newport News, Virginia! This is an informal time to discuss any library ministry idea or questions in a roundtable setting. And as always, there is a Swap Table for your books, DVD's, library supplies, etc., you wish to share with others -- only bring books within 10 years of publication - not yellowed, torn, or written in.     Hello Virginia Librarians and Friends! We had a fantastic two-day Spring Conference in May at Chester Baptist Church. Great Conferences! Great Attendance! Great Learning! and lots of Fellowship! We have a couple of smaller and regional events coming up in June and July. Bethel United Methodist Church in Lively, Virginia, is hosting a Coffee & Chat on Saturday, June 10, at their church located at 142 Old Bethel Road - and as always, all librarians are invited to this free event - especially folks who are new to Church Library Ministry! Bethel Church is offering a catered salad lunch for $15.00 (several salads to choose from, including a crab salad!). Forum

Let's talk Book Clubs and Reading Groups

On October 21, 2023 while we are together in Richmond, we are going to share our experiences and ideas about book clubs. I thought it would be fun to continue to share our stories beyond the conference. So I am setting up a forum for our conversations going forward about our book clubs and reading groups so that I can put the link in our handout. Can't wait to be with all of you on Zoom. Surely do wish I could be with you in person! Morlee
