Leftover Bible Study Materials

Our church has a few Bible studies each year (Women's Bible study, Men's Bible study, etc.).  We have extra  workbooks and DVDs of these studies.  Should I designate a section in our church library for these study materials for members who might have missed the Bible study?

  • At the church I attended several years ago, we added them to the circulation and would check them out to members. That way we had them (especially the DVDs) available if someone wanted to use them again.
  • In our church library, I have an area that says something like "Help Yourself! These items are extra. Feel free to take as many as you want for your self or to share with a friend." I put extra materials, duplicates, slightly damaged books, weeded books or things that I know won't circulate on these shelves. Our members love the Help Yourself area because it helps build home libraries. provides books for people to give to shut-ins, and we have many members in jail/work release and they don't know if they will get to come back so they are reluctant to check out books. Items that have been there for a long time are donated to our local public library for their book sale.
