What's New?

What is new in your church’s or synagogue’s library ministry? Hopefully new books, but what about other ways of having something new? I have something new to share but I can’t get my iPhone to send the photos to my email account where I can download the photos to my laptop. I'll add our new "thing" Wednesday while I am in the Enrichment Center. Notice I am putting this discussion in the Emerging Church Libraries category. Anything new puts us in the Emerging catagory, right?

  • First of all, our library got moved from utility closet in the main building to the first floor classroom in our athletic building. It's more accessible but locked most of the week as it is also a classroom on Sunday. We now meet in that room for our book club discussion and had the most gals this month. I think they were eager to see what we have done. The librarian also added a puzzle shelf and we are accepting puzzles. I'm not sure if any of them have gone out yet but this is new for us. We also now have a computer program and things are being added every day. What a blessing that is!!

  • We now have a puzzle swap at the library.  We have a few shelves with puzzles and anyone can drop off a puzzle and take one off the shelf. (we have a sign explaining the puzzle swap).  Most people return the puzzles (we don't require it) so we now have quite a collection. We usually have about 12-15 puzzles on the shelf and keep the rest in storage.  We change the puzzles on the shelf to fit the seasons.  We also try to stock puzzles of different pieces for all ages.  It's very popular (especially for families and our seniors) and bring people into the library!

    • I love this idea; my public library does it too.  I think it might be popular in our church library but we have absolutely NO space to do it!
