I am a church librarian in Indianapolis writing an article about church libraries for a national Christian publication. I would love to hear from other librarians about what is the purpose or mission of your church library. Please include the name of your church and its city and state and describe how large your collection is. Thanks!

  • Thanks for your response.
  • We take Romans 12:2a as our ministry's verse. "Be not conformed to this world but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind." In addition to the Bible, Christian Literature can have a profound effect on the mindset of our society. Therefore, we seek to have in our collection only those materials that bring a person closer to Christ. Those would include biographies, books by popular and classic teachers/preachers, and Christian fiction - - - which patterns a Christian lifestyle and usually presents the plan of salvation. We have witnessed lives changed due to items they have checked out of our library.
Our church is First Baptist in Cleveland, Tennessee with 14,000 titles on our shelves and an annual circulation of 27,000.
  • Hi Luanne.

"To win the lost, grow the saved, and provide wholesome materials for everyone from birth to heaven." We do this by encircling the ministries of our church and supporting them with our resources and talents. our goal is to provide more information in all areas of education within the church and community.

We have around 27,000 items in our collection and grow weekly.
