Church Library Ministry is well known among other ministries for the strong history of a variety of training events through the years. While many ministries have given up on providing training for church leaders due to lack of funding, librarians have figured out how to continue to provide training opportunities. Even though some church library associations have faded away, we do continue to have a few groups that continue to host training events. Sadly, we have fewer conferences on our CLN Events page than we did when we started the CLN in 2020.

Let’s share what is happening these days as approaches to training librarians are shifting to new formats.

  • The ECLA (Evangelical Church Libraries Association) is hosting a conference for church librarians, Christian school librarians and book lovers on September 23.  It will be at Berean Baptist Church in Portage MI.  For registration information, go to www.eclalibraries.org!

  • The Nashville Baptist Association is in the process of developing a variety of networks that have two purposes.

    1. On the NBA website, pastors and church leaders can find a roster of connections to ministry leaders in the association who are available to assist them in developing these ministries in their churches. For example, a pastor called the associational office recently that his church needed assistance in how to minister to 7 families of autistic children who recently joined the church. The NBA Office Manager gave the pastor the contact information to the NBA Kids Ministry Network Facilitator who connected him with one of the network members who has a strong ministry with autistic children. The new "brand" for the NBA is "Helping Churches Help Churches."
    2. Several of the NBA Networks have regularly scheduled gatherings for leaders in their target ministry. During these gatherings they fellowship, laugh, share their challenges, share how they carry out their ministry responsibilities, tour the ministry area of the host churches, and pray together. A few NBA church librarians currently launching a new NBA Church Library Ministry Network with a Meet & Greet on September 21. Click here for the details. Yes, we did get this new training concept from our friends in Virginia where Lee Smith works with various churches in the state to have "Coffee & Chats."
