By now, many of us have our summer library plans ready to launch. Let's share our plans with each other for this year. Photos? If you plan to take pictures of children, be sure to get permission from their parents for you to share the photos on the Church Librarians Network.

This is rather late, but may be useful for the future. This is our tenth year sponsoring a summer reading program for children, 6th grade and under. We allow preschoolers as reading to children is beneficial and we allow adults reading to any age participant to count as well. Different grade catergories have different reading goals ( minutes read), broken down into four levels. Readers select prizes from four different treasure chests when they reach each goal. We give them reading logs where they document their reading minutes. Our theme relates in some way to the VBS theme. Our VBS theme this year was "Magnifed!" so we chose "Zoom into Books!" as our reading program theme. Ours is a small church with around 150 in attendance. We usually have around 20 kids participate. The goal is to get children and parents into our library. It is likely most of the participants would read during the summer months regardless of the treasure incentives.
