Babs Harris and her team are working on a small display in the adult area of their building. Question: When you have display locations away from the library that are not considered satellite location, how do you identify the locations of the items in the catalog? They use Atriuum. Is there a better way than adding new location terms to the catalog? Let’s consider using these types of small displays for self-checkout.

We have a book case in hall leading to the Sanctuary. We rotate the display on this bookcase every 4-6 weeks. We set up a user name for the book case and check out the books on the display to the book case user. We have an Honor checkout sheet for patrons to sign when they "checkout" a book. We update Atruuum from the checkout sheet, which with one step checks in the patron's chosen book from the Hall Book Case and checks it out to the patron. We have a small Book Return box with a slanted top beside the Hall Book Case. The Honor checkout sheet and pencils rest on the slanted top. Have a typed Instruction Sheet posted above the Return box.
I don't know if it's a better way or not, but we use Atriuum Express and like to check out books that are in the window to a Library Display account. If we forget it's in the window, and think it's lost because it's not on the shelf, we can look at the Patrons with Items Out report to see which account has it. Plus, its added to the book circulation numbers. There is no extra cataloging needed, such as changing the Item Status, or using Reclassify to reverse it. If someone wants to check out a display book, we check it in first and then circulate it as normal. We also have another account called Library Repair for mending books.

I use ATRIUUM. Since we don't have a display case/window I display books out in the hall near the library, as well as in the library on shelves. When I put an item on display anywhere I mark it's status as "On display" then in the Holding Notes (at the bottom of the holding page) I type in ON DISPLAY - HALL [ or where ever it is displayed in the library]. When I remove it from display I delete this entry as well as returning it to Circulation status.
