  • There are two thoughts of compensation for library service.  One is that professional librarians are prone to want to be compensated as they have the credentials to back them.  That's fair.  YET, remember that this is God's work and not a professional.

I was a Sunday School teacher for 15 years and enjoyed the children and of course was not compensated.  My children grew and I knew it was time to move on.  I joined the Library committee and in time became the Librarian.  I did this as a volunteer position.  I truly believe that the Lord has blessed me time and again by using my gifts and talents and not holding out my hand for compensation.  I don't believe I would have success  in all that has been accomplished if I was paid.  I'm not a professional and don't brag that I am.  I'm serving God and his Message of love and forgiveness.

I have helped many people that come into the library seeking answers to their problems long before the person considers going to the pastor for counseling.  The WORD is powerful.

If a person asks for payment, consider giving them a bonus at Christmas time or at the end of the SS year.  Personally I wouldn't be able to put a price on all that I have gained and learned.

    Just my thoughts. Good luck,
