I have been approached to help start up a library for a small but growing private Christian school. I know that a few of you get paid for administrating in your own churches or church schools. Could you be so kind as to give me salary range so I can base my own resonable request?

There are two ways to look at this issue. My position as church librarian came out of 15 years as a Sunday School teacher. As those days ended, I naturally moved into the role as volunteer librarian. This was 32 years ago. Today at our church we have a paid staff of 20+ that do get paid for their talents. I've always seen my role as volunteer because I do not have a Library of Science degree. YET, I don't feel that our library would have grown into the high quality library that it is noted for if it wasn't with God's guidance and help. I truly don't believe in paying every person that walks in the door for their efforts, but at times wish I would have requested some payment along the way. I do get a generous gift at Christmas. Don't cut yourself short just because it is a "church" library. Asking others for suggestions for pay is a good idea. Good luck with your new venture.
