Yesterday I had the opportunity to participate in a Student Ministry Parent & Guardian luncheon. David Reed, our Student Minister, asked me to prepare a list of Enrichment Center books for parents and guardians. I followed up asking if I could be there with some of the books. When I got there to set up, he asked if I would share information about the Enrichment Center at the end of the luncheon.

  • One of the funny experiences was a parent commenting to me in a surprised voice "Look at all these recent books!" I took that to mean she thought we only had out of date books on parenting.
  • A stressful experience was coming up with what I was going to say at the end. I ended up basing my 3 minute time on EC connections to what the main speaker shared.
  • Awkward and embarressing moment was forgetting one of our best users names.
  • And a thrilling moment was when David kept thanking me for a great job! He said "Let's do this again!"
  • Most hopeful thought is seeing these parents and their kids use the Enrichment Center. Our location is a long way from the Enrichment Center.

My next age group ministry opportunity is December 9 when I get to read a book with preschoolers during their Preschool Christmas Party.

How about you? Please share your age group ministry opportunities and connections.

  • smile so glad you were offered the chance to share about the EC! There's such a big difference between church staff who see the value of the library for their members and those who seem to think the library is taking up valuable real estate in the church building.
