  • We just had an open house for the 150th anniversary of our church library. We did a video to promote it in the worship service during the announcements. The video had narration and pictures of the library's interior, patrons, and workers. The pastor also gave an enthusiastic invitation for the congregation to come and sign our guest book. Since we are right behind the sanctuary, it was easy for many to stop on their way to Sunday School or into the next service. Having the time convenient for those already at church helped our attendance. We gave out little treats - - - 3 mints wrapped in fabric with a tag that said, "Reading is Sweet."
    • Love the idea of having a guest book! And candy is always good to have. Thanks for your reply.
  • I have had breakfast in the library for the early birds in our church before SS or choir with home made breads, muffins, juice and coffee. I did not advertise it and many came, were pleasantly surprised and really appreciated it. Just a thought to get them into your library. Darlene Earnhardt
    • Food is always a good idea. Thanks for your reply.
  • How about combining the Open House with another event? We are planning an art exhibit for a talented lady in our church. We plan to schedule it on a Sun. afternoon prior to worship service. We're thinking people will come early, visit and then go to church. If it is successful, we plan in the future to make it a regular activity, featuring different individuals to showcase their talents. Churches have so many talented members that people are unaware of. As my mother used to say, "Kill two birds with one stone."
    • Thank you for your reply. Your mom gave good advice. :-)
