I have been weeding my church library for several months. I seriously belive it has never been weeded at all since some books date as far back as 1950. Needless to say, I have alot of old books to get rid of and I doubt anyone would want them. Any suggestions on where I can unload these books, other than the dumpster?

Our church Library has been in existence since the 1960's and books titles and subjects have changed over the years. I would agree that prisons are a worthwhile place for some of the books. We have a member that served prision time and was saved by reading Rick Warren's book. No good book is too much to toss. Consider your local Library Book Fair. The ones that I can't get rid of, I give to Goodwill or Salvation Army as they recycle the books. Young Adult books need to stay current as life passes quickly in that age bracket. VERY important to keep your inventory current, fresh, and presentable to your patrons

Some of our weeded materials have gone to large prisons. One of our church members does volunteer work there and said the inmates are hungry for anything Christian.
Check on thisintothat.com and you will get some good ideas for some handy workworking person to use them and make a little extra money as well. Fun things.
Don't throw those books away! It doesn't matter how old the Christian books and Bibles are, there are organizations that can collect these books to send to pastors, churches, theological schools and Sunday schools overseas. I have collected and sent Christian books and Bibles to the Christian Salvage Mission, in Canada. There are many like it in the USA.
