New Church Library – Help

Our widows group has been given the privilege of beginning a library in our church.  There was a very old library that was seldom used with only outdated materials.  We are beginning from the ground up.

First, we are interested in having the church goers fill out a questionnaire.  We would like to find out genres, authors, titles, media types, etc of interest.  Does someone have such a questionnaire?   We want to target all ages.

Though we are unsure where to go from there, we believe this is our beginning,

Thank you for any assistance you can give.

  • Elaine, so glad you found Church Librarians Network! Welcome!  You will find lots of help on this website in the articles on the main page and also by reading questions and answers that have been posted.

There are a couple of resources that will be helpful to you as well.  When you click on the LifeWay sponsor ad in the right-hand column of this page, you will see resources for purchase. The green item on the page titled "A Classification System for Church Libraries" is a book compiled especially for church librarians to use in classifying media. It is very helpful to all of us!  The other resource that I would especially recommend is the one titled "Church Library Ministry Information Service, REVISED" -- it is $19.99 and also says available immediately.  It is in PDF format and you can download and print it.  It is a resource which gives helps in all areas of church library management.  You will find answers to many of your questions in these resources.
