Need help cataloging books

The books listed below were given to the Church Library as a Memorial for one of our members who passed away recently.

Our Librarian who does the cataloging is out sick and I need to catalog these right away.

I usually don't have any trouble cataloging but these books have me stumped. Can you help me with this ??

Thank You !

Janet Estridge.

  • I want to say a very big "Thank You" to all who have helped me with this problem.
I'm also grateful for this website for fellow Church Librarian's who are also our Brothers and Sisters in Christ.

  • Here's another resource I used a lot while recataloging our entire collection to Dewey: "A Classification System for Church Libraries, Revised Edition, Based on the Dewey Decimal Classification System". It is availble through Lifeway (http://www.lifewaystores.com/lwstore/product.asp?isbn=0633199702&am...). I found that it helped for unusual items (e.g. study guides for reference, not found in libraries). It also helps in considering whether to use the Dewey listed in the CIP or one based on another of the Subject references that might fit your library better.
  • Here's a helpful site for cataloging: http://classify.oclc.org/classify2/ You can look up at item, and it tells you where other libraries have placed it. It was published a few months ago in (I believe) the CSLA library association website.

    • Thanks Ann, so very much.
I wasn't sure what Dewey number to put on these books and thanks too for including the Subject matter.
