I was intrigued by the brief mention of it during our VBLA Fall conference. Here's my situation: We have the main campus, but several years ago purchased an office condo across the street, and that's where the college kids, and Varsity young people have their space. The library is NOT convenient to that space, and in talking with the youth pastor- he said they were not going to make the effort to go over there. So, I'm actually in process of reclassifying some things that are not moving as T for teen with appropriate classification, and starting a mini-library over there- perhaps on a library cart or something that can be pushed out of the way. I would not be involved- it would be self-checkout, and would be operated by Teens themselves. I would purchase materials that they request, and classify them with a barcode- just in case, they come back over from across the street. Anyway, that's what I'm thinking. I did not attend the Ridgecrest conference.

Sounds like a great idea! Not exactly the social library concept because it is in part of your church building. We have had the idea of having part of our collections in various parts of our buildings for a long time. Love the way you are giving the teens an active part in managing the library in their area. You are truly mentoring the future of your library.
A social library is in a location beyond your church building where people can connect in a library setting. In the near future, we will be sharing more and more ideas based on the social library concept here on the CLN.
Thanks for sharing what you are doing there at your church!

Thank you- Now I need to pray that the youth pastor will allow this in his space.

I will join you in that prayer.
