A grandmother came into our library today with a real burden on her heart for her 8 year old grandaughter. Though only 8, this young girl is strongly believing in Jesus to see her through this experience, and grandma would like a book to encourage her with. I did not find anything appropriate in our (mostly older copyright dated) children's collection. Any current picture or early chapter books to recommend?

Joanne, I know how much you want to help a person who is dealing with this, so I went to a source I often go to in order to search for books -- Christian Book Distributors. I am going to copy several books that could be helpful. I do not have these in my library at present, but I certainly will aim to get them.
Helping Children Cope With Divorce

Hope No Matter What: Helping Your Children Heal After Divorce
Can Anyone Fix My Broken Heart?: Hope for Children of Divorce By: J... This one looks especially good.
It's Not Your Fault, Koko Bear
I hope you find these helpful.

Thank you MaryLou, I appreciate your suggestions. These would be good resources for the mother and grandmother. There doesn't seem to be much available for the children themselves to read, which was what the grandma requested. I took a look at the Koko Bear book and it would be very helpful for younger children; however, there is no Christian message or viewpoint that I could determine from the pages available to read online.
I'm going to check back with the grandmother and get a little more insight. Maybe just a general book about Jesus being with us through trials would be helpful for the 8 year old, or a book about the promises of God that she could read.
The best book that I have found apropriate for age 8 or so is the series, My Friend is Struggling...with Divorce by Josh McDowell based on Proverbs 17:17. He has written a series of books for children to deal with crisis situations (why was there 9/11). If you want something in simple terms, the book - Divorce Comes to our House by Owens; Let's Talk about Divorce by Mr. Fred Rogers. I hope these books are helpful to the family.
Thanks for these suggestions Bev! They sound great!
