Most of my collection goes from pictures books to rather lenghty chapter books.  I need some suggestions of titles for children that are trying to move from picture books to chapter books.  I have a few like Squirelly Squirels, but not many.

  • To add to the excellent book series already mentioned, we have the Three Cousins Detective Club by Elspeth Campbell Murphy, The Sugar Creek Gang by Paul Hutchens and The Boxcar Children Series Gertrude Chandler Warner.

  • The Berenstein Bears series has several beginning chapter books that are enjoyed by our children.  The Alex series by Nancy Levene is also loved by the kids, but I'm not sure they are still in print.

  • We have some early chapter book series that are getting checked out quite a bit: Dead Sea Squirrels by Mike Nawrocki (Tyndale), Imagination Station (Focus on the Family -Adventures in Odyssey), and The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls by M.J. Thomas (WorthyKids). A couple of series that fall between beginning chapter books and YA/teen books would be the Epic Order of the Seven Series by Jenny L. Cote (Living Ink) and the Bash books by Burton Cole (B&H Publishing).
