We want a cost-effective solution to extend the life of often-circulated paperbacks (fiction, mostly). Wading through the choices is difficult. What should I consider? What have you found useful? Thanks for sharing.

We use Reddi-Rolls Laminate that is 5 mil from Demco. The entire book is covered. Our patrons like our books to have a flexible cover. That is why we don't use Kapco even though it's a great product. We used to use Contact Paper all the time but the formula seems to have changed and become thinner. It does not do as well as it did a few years ago so we stopped using it.

We started using those book covers and the covers were hard to apply, but we switched to the corner protectors that are usually for repair of books. They're easy to apply and the books themselves stay nice without that hard cover.
We used the corner protectors and found they hang up on each other when reshelving. We have switched to Kapco covers, which are tricky to apply but we have one expert and a few on staff that are pretty good at it.
You're right about those hanging up, we use the contact paper and make a wing for our corner protectors also. They are most inexpensive and work well. I do like the Kapco covers a lot, but the cost is out of my budget, so I use the contact paper and am pleased.

Louann, I replied to this, but I don't see the reply. I probably selected the wrong button. LOL.
Anyway, we use clear contact paper. We have used it for many, many years. It is purchased from Wal Mart or Target. It is less expensive, is repositional so you have time to get it straight. It takes care of the books very well and we have never had a problem with it.
