Classification question

In classifiing a book the information is put in the top right corner of the title page.

What is the purpose of putting the information there?

Who uses this information besides the person who adds the information to complete the processing of the book?

If the information is correct on the spine of the book does it matter that the information inside the book may not be correct.

I have had this question presented to me by a library staff person who helps process books. Some books have been moved from one area to another but the information was only changed on the outside not on the inside. They did not see the need to change the information on the title page as well.

If possible please let me know by Saturday night 2/16 as I have a meeting with the library staff Sunday after church and would like to give then an answer to these questions.

Any help in this area is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Margaret Trail
