Greetings.
I am interested in how others catalog children's books. We separate our books as follows...
P-Preschool
E-Elementary
S-Student
C-College
It seems to me that there is too much overlap between these categories. Our children's ministries have the children separated into preschool (through kindergarten), grade school (1st grade - 5th grade), and youth (6th grade - 12th grade). It seems to me that maybe our library should have the same classifications for books.
I'd love to know how others do this. Thanks in advance for your replies.

I would agree with Eva's categories. I have defined our children's books in categories:
Children - Preschool (Children - P)
Children - Preschool/Bible Stories (Children - P/B)
Children - Elementary (Children - E)
Children - Elementary - Bible Stories (Children - E / Bible Stories
Young Adult
I have separate categories for the following Children books as well : Death & Dying; Sensitive Issues; I CAN READ BASKET

As a followup to Eva Nell Hunter's answer, you can look at the Children Mediagraphy 2015, Revised (link on main page in the center news section) to see how these classifications are used for children. This list gives you most of the information needed to add a book or other media to your collection -- everything except where you purchased the item and a summary, if you include that in your database! Great information!
