I'm planning a churchwide reading challenge, along the lines of seeing how quickly our large church can read a certain number of books. Sunday attendance runs 1,000 including all ages so I'm wondering if 10,000 books is a good goal. Has anyone tried this?
I know the goal will depend on whether we count books read to preschoolers and other factors. I have ideas for fun promotions, such as taking pictures of yourself reading in an unusual place (to be posted in a Sunday night slide show) and letting people form reading teams to see if the librarians can out-read the staff, for example.
I welcome input!

Well, I actually went with a very simplified book club because my daughter had back surgery in June. (She's great now, back almost perfectly straight.)
July Book Blast is underway. Kids just record their books read on a colorful sheet I provide. At the end of the month we will have prize boxes: gold, silver and bronze, based on # of books read. I'm requiring at least one book come from the church library to promote awareness.
Maybe next summer will be the year for the whole hog, multimedia promoted book club.

It is fun to post a little competition between adults and children/males vs females. Also to encourage a variety of books - like a type of decathlon - where awards are given for completing different genres.
