  • Humphrey's First Christmas by Carol Heyer is one of my favorites. Con: it shows the wise men at the stable. Pro: Humphrey has the coolest expressions ever and he learns to give! I love the first and last page...

  • We purchased one particular book that has been such a lovely surprise. It is a board book, "M is for Manger" and honestly it is the most beautiful and surprisingly deep board book I have ever seen. We have received so many compliments from parents, who remark that the simple, lovely illustrations are perfectly matched with the text. They also comment that with each page having both text and then a scripture verse, the book can be "expanded" to reach older kids as well...a wonderful read for the whole family!

M is for Manger is a rhyming storybook that tells them account of Christ's birth is an accessible yet awe inspiring way!

  • My favorite advent book is posted below, but other books we enjoy in our library (Baptist denomination) are as follows. For adults: Sermons for Advent & Christmas Day (Martin Luther); Christ of Christmas (James Montgomery Boice); One True Gift (Tim Chester); Advent of the Lamb of God (Russ Ramsey); Come Let us Adore Him (Paul David Tripp).

Kid's books include: Stable Where Jesus was Born (Rhonda Gowler Greene); Does God Celebrate Christmas? (Phillip Rodgers (older book)); Best Gift Ever (Ronnie Martin); What is Christmas? (Michelle Adams); Star Bright, Christmas Light (Hannah Hall); Listen to the Silent Night (Dandi Daley Mackall); One Small Donkey (Dandi Daley Mackall); Night of Great Joy (Mary Engelbreit); Christmas Promise (Allison Mitchell); The Christmas Star (Marcus Pfister).

  • I love the Advent Storybook by Laura Richie. Her grandparents are members of our church and asked me to review it before donating it to our library. Here is my review posted on ChristianBook.com, "This is a lovely Bible story book. If you take a look at the Table of Contents, you will notice that this book covers stories from Genesis onward, thus giving a nice overall look at the story of the Bible. Biblically based, well written, and beautifully illustrated. While it is recommended for the season leading up to Christmas and the birth of Christ, it will do well at any time of the year. We are proud to carry in our church library." She has also written an Easter book which I plan to purchase.
