As we progress in revitalizing our library, we are grouping some collections of certain non-fiction topics, such as Discipleship, Grief, etc. We are not pulling every book off the shelf that has to do with a subject to move to each collection but will move books in and out. Every book is catalogued in Atriuum using the Dewey Decimal system.
So if a patron comes in looking for one of these specific topics, the book could be in one of two locations inside the Main Library. (We have satellite locations in other parts of the building.)
Is there a way for us to designate this so a patron who is searching for that topic in the computer or in Librista would understand which shelf to go to?
Possibly: Main Library (which would mean using the Dewey Decimal system)  or Main Library: Topical Collection?
Our patrons seem to like the idea of easily and quickly finding materials in the topical section, but we want to make sure we aren't leaving holes in the new system.
thanks for your thoughts and guidance!

  • Since you are using atriuum you can add locations for every item in the library. we have sections for Children 0-7, Juvenile8-12 Youth 13-19, Adult, Small book shelves, Large book shelves and many other specific spaces. it is very easy to locate items generally. By using you are automatically pulling all items on the same subject together. I will be covering this info at the Central Al Library Conf on March 7. Hope to see you there.
