Books for Single People

Hi,

I am trying to create a new section in our church library that is primarily made up of books for single people. I should also explain that our church library uses more of a subject heading system rather than DDC or LCC. (We tried it - patrons found it too confusing). Does anyone else have a system like this where they have created this type of a section? I am just wondering what to call it. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

  • Marcella, I too uses category/subject headings as well.  ( a professional librarian set up the library years ago and even though the library has grown, I like the subject headings as it lends itself to a self-service library.  I have a overall section of Family Life and under that category I have Singles, Divorce, Marriage Preparation, Marriage Encrichment, etc.  Therefore I have the heading of Family Life - Singles.  There is no questions nor errors in shelving in this format.  Good for you to create this category.

  • In our library we have a section called Young Adults (this is for high school and includes all young adults) and on the spine of items in this section we have placed on the top line YA then the other information is added to know where to place the book/item on the shelf. We use the Dewey Classification system and this works very well.
