Non-fiction books written by people of color that we carry in our (conservative Baptist) library: Lemuel Haynes (Selected Sermons), H.B. Charles (On Preaching; On Pastoring; On Worship; Blessing and Praise DVD), Voddie Baucham (Expository Apologetics; Ever Loving Truth; Family Driven Faith; Joseph and the Gospel of Many Colors; Family Shepherds), Anthony J. Carter (Blood Work), Conrad Mbewe (nothing yet), Virgil Walker and Darrell Harrison (often write together) (nothing yet), Thabiti Anyabwile (Faithful Preachers; May We Meet in the Heavenly World (about Lemuel Haynes)).
Books about people of color (I don't know the ethnicity of the authors) for children and youth: David and Neta Jackson (Heroes in Black History: True Stories from the Lives of Christian Heroes), several missionary books in the Do Good Things for God series (Fannie Lou Hamer; Maria Fearing; and Betsey Stockton), Simonetta Carr (Phillis Wheatley).
Other possibilities I haven't researched: Jasmine Holmes (Strong and Fearless Faith: 52 Inspiring Stories of Black Believers (ages 8 to 12), Heroes in History series (ages 10 to 13), including books about Frederick Douglass, Ben Carson, George Washington Carver, and Harriet Tubman)
I did a simple search on amazon.com BOOKS BY BLACK CHRISTIAN AUTHORS
and an extensive list came up. Some of them had publication dates in 1977. titles I have in my church library that adhere to The Baptist Faith and Message:
God's ABCs by Ashley King (children book)
Blessed is She by Victoria Mcaffee
Kingdom Woman by Tony Evans
In Search of a Prince by Tony Shiloh (Christian Fiction)
Daughters of Thunder by Bettye Collier Thomas
How to Preach a Dangerous Sermon by Frank Thomas
Standing in the Need of Prayer: a modern retelling of the classic spiritual by Carole Boston Weatherford (children's book Caldecott Award)
and many more on the list that I want to read on my kindle but my not fit the needs of Eastern Hills Baptist Church Library.
A couple of picture books by authors of color that my kids love are "God Made Me and You" by Shai Linne and "God's Very Good Idea" by Trilla Newbell. Both of these topics deal with the topic of race in a kid-friendly way. These authors also have written for an adult audience as well.
Priscilla Shrier is another author who comes to mind. I also just heard a podcast interview with K.A. Ellis and now have her on my to-read list as well.
