I discovered recently that next month will be the 40th anniversary of the opening of my church library. I learned this while looking through old papers such as minutes from organizational meetings, erc. I compiled all of the information into a narrative history for the church's archives. When I told someone in charge of the archives about this being a special anniversary year, she made an attractive display of some of our artifacts and photos in the archives display case. We're trying to decide how else we should celebrate this anniversary.
Our church doesn't get information out in print anymore. We don't put things in the bulletin anymore, and we discontinued the monthly printed newsletter. Now we share information in an email blast that goes out twice a week. I can easily have them put a link to a PDF of the history that I wrote, so I thought I'd do that, and I might bring attention to the archives display that's already out.
If you have suggestions for a modest celebration, I'd love to hear them. don't want to go over the top with a celebration because I'd like to do something bigger in 10 years when we celebrate our 50th. (If we go all out for our 40th, how could we top it for our 50th?)

We had our 50th anniversary a couple of years back. We invited all library users past and present to come to an open house. The invitation said " 50 years ago we checked out our first book; 49 years 11 months ago we had our first past due" I had several people come and say they were probably the first past due. It was a great homecoming. The daughter of our first librarian flew in to help us celebrate.
