Church Library Orientation

CHURCH LIBRARY MINISTRY COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT OVERVIEW:

• READ/CONFERENCE:  Read pages 92-101 and 116-127 in the Church Library Ministry Information Service AND/OR participate in a conference on at least one of the following:

1. Selecting Media
2. Book Repair
3. Circulation, Inventory, Weeding

• INTERVIEW/VISIT:  Visit one church library and one public library or connect with librarians through the CLN Members page to solicit ideas for care and selection of materials and circulation tips.

• DEVELOP your church library’s policies for selection and weeding and a repair manual.

• IMPLEMENT plans to inventory the collection and weed as necessary.

• EVALUATE: After inventory and weeding, evaluate (with other library team members) the entire collection. Set aside books needing repair and note areas/subjects that need to be expanded.  Team members who frequently work the circulation desk will have ideas for needed materials by the requests from the customers.
