We just wrapped up our 3rd annual Summer Reading Rewards program at Grace Baptist Church. I have posted photos in the Photos section of the web site.…

I am a retired teacher-librarian and have volunteered to be the librarian at our church. It is a very small library, probably about 1000-1500 books. It is open only for a few minutes on Sunday morning. I will eventually change this. I just want to get myself oriented with the workings of it all. I have volunteered for about five years, but now it will be a little different. I want to upgrade, promote, weed, and organize.our library. It will be a challenge, but I love… Continue

We've probably all heard the expression, "When Life hands you lemons, make lemonade!" Well, I'm not sure what Scripture might apply to a situation like that, but we had a medium-sized room for a library that was fine, except that several things beyond our control changed, and what was once a thriving location for us became known as "The Cave." Our library was no longer a location where the main congregation could access it easily or quickly, and… Continue

My family had a fun time last night celebrating my sister's first book
release!! So I want to share it with you first!! I highly recommend it
for every church library because Diane easily connects with all who
struggle with prayer on a daily basis. The book is easy to read, fun,
and challenging all at the same time. This book is Diane's first
published book. Her second releases in April which deals with the
journey of Debbie and Dick Church with breast… Continue

This is an EXCELLENT book. It is the story of a young boy growing up with hemophilia who contracted the HIV virus through treatments for his bleeding disorder. The book cover said he "knew he had a choice - - - to feel sorry for himself - - or to live as faith-fully and boldly as possible." After reading this, any minor aches or inconveniences in life should seem trivial to you . . . if they don't, then you should reread the book and complete the Bible Study at the end!… Continue

Stories of Faith and Courage from World War II
I have only skimmed a few pages but this looks like it will be an excellent book - - especially if you need a gift for a war buff. Not only is it a 365 page devotional but it gives a "unique and concise history of World War II with summaries, maps, and photographs… Continue

This little hardback book of 219 pages published by Zondervan and written by Ace Collins is a wake-up call to all of us. We use 30,000 words a day. Collins tells us how to make them count. We can heal or injure, make happiness or sadness, cause a person to be lifted or crushed to the ground. We can inspire, destroy, make someone feel cared for or not wanted. Wow! The power of words. This is a commonsense book, but many of us don't use that God-given thing called commonsense. Let's weed out… Continue

Today, May 4th, is the release of the movie "The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry". It was in limited release in the theaters and Rita Kirkland and I had a chance to see it. It is a MUST BUY for all church libraries. It is a beautiful story of an older man mentoring young boys in his town and the influence that he has on their lives, as well as the influence they have on him. LifeWay is carrying it and I plan to buy it today.

I need some ideas on how you acquire new funds for your libraries. Do you only receive funds through the budget of your church, do you have fundraisers, do you receive donations, etc.? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

by Kathy Herman, an author we have recently rediscovered. Poor Mrs Rigsby is Christian fiction at its best, showing the temptations faced by believers and how great God's grace is to restore us. It is also great suspense reading.

We are trying something new in the library at Eastern Hills Baptist Church, Albuquerque, NM. We challenged the adults and youth to Read 10 in 2010. We did not know if the adults would respond, but they have. Thirty eight have signed up so far and several are new library users, which of course was the main purpose. We have a chart with their names and they are given a book sticker to put by their name when they have read a book. They are just as eager as the children to put… Continue

I have just completed the newly released book, Beguiled. I would highly recommend it. It is quite different from Gist's other books, in that it is a contemporary novel, with an added mystery. The book reflects a successful combination of each author's expertise, Gist's being the romance and Bertrand's being the mystery. An easy read book you will not want to put down.

Written by Gayle Haggard in response to her husband's public fall into sin. This book will make you think about forgiveness like you never have before.

I would love to receive reading selections for a book club @ Timberlake Baptist Church in Myrtle Beach. Many couples as well as single adults attend our supper meetings.
Some titles we've enjoyed are The Shack, Same Kind of Different as Me, God on a Harley, and Quiet Strength.
Thanks in advance.

Here's how we celebrate Valentine's Day in the library at Richmond Presbyterian, Richmond, BC, Canada: Every year, on the Sunday nearest Valentine's (right on this year!), we have "Kiss Sunday" when we give out bookmark-size lists of love-themed media. Attached to each is a sweet treat. Ah, you guessed it - Hershey Kisses!
Needless to say, the display, the bookmarks and the "kisses" are a big hit - and our library helpers get lots of hugs, too.
