3 x 20 = Success

Untitled 4 Reading is a full body workout for a child’s mind. MRI studies of children have found that reading lights up their whole brain. The front of the brain which deals with reason, speech, and problem solving; the back dealing with vision; and both sides of the mid-brain which process perception, sound, memory, and speech are all activated by reading.

Cowden-Smith Library

Sunday, May 18, 2014.  Sarasota. Florida.  A dedication of the new library was held and attended by approximately 50 people.  The Reverend Dr. Glen Bell opened the ceremony with a few comments of brief history from Annabelle Cowden to Natalie Smith (Librarian). Portraits of each woman were unvailed by Bruce Maxian.  Pastor Glen presented a Certificate of appreciation to Jim Smith in recognition to both Natalie and Jim for their time and talent to the church.  Finally, Glen offered a closing…

Beth Andrews tribute

Beth,

Although I have not know you personally for very long, I feel that I have "known" you for many, many years. Thank you for your guidance, your inspiration, and your knowledge.  You have provided so many blessings to so many.  Your legacy is and will continue to be appreciated by current and future librarians.   I feel that God will open other doors for your talents and gifts.  May you bask in the warmth of His presence and guidance whatever you do.

Digital Library Begun

Questions I received (from Jenn Burwell) about my plan to make an online digital library of church corporate records:

How are you going to digitize?  Scan each document or take pictures?

Where are you going to store these documents?  Server, PC, Cloud (Dropbox)?  I would suggest DropBox in the cloud if this is going to the congregation.  Depending on the size, you could get a church account for…

Journey to the Cross

Our first Journey to the Cross was in 2012.  We are getting ready for our third year now and the thought came to me that some of you might be interested in doing this yourself on Good Friday.  I've posted pictures of the stations in the photos section so you can get an idea of how we set them up.  It's an interactive walk along the path that Jesus walked during His last days on earth.  I'd be willing to share our guide book that gives full descriptions of what each station represents, how…

Church Anniversary celebrations

I read an article about someone wanting to write a book helping churches plan anniversary events. I'd like to tell her about our recent celebration but I can't find her article now. Can anyone tell me how to contact her?

Thank you, Marion Boan

The Cowden-Smith Library

The First Presbyterian church (USA) of Sarasota, Florida has a new library.  Over the past two years planing, design and relocation of the church library from a small, overgrown, humid and poorly located facility was accomplished.  By combining and gutting two former classrooms and providing a proper environment for library materials the church now has a comfortable, working library.  There is temperature/humidity control and wireless internet access. Shelving encircles most of the room (one…
