Easter

To encourage people to come through the library Easter Sunday morning as well as celebrate our first anniversary of being reopened we set up a display with "He Is Risen". We gave away book marks with scripture about the stone being rolled away. We also gave away donut holes as the "stone" that was rolled away.

Popcorn theme came from Upstart magazine.  Boxes are from Hobby Lobby. Table skirt from Party City.  SRC runs for five weeks.  Each child required to read, or be read to, 15 books....children who have completed 3rd grade and up are required to read 50 pages=1 book.  They place a sticker on their personal chart to measure their progress.  When they reach the goal, they are rewarded with a goody bag containing items related to them plus other little trinkets/candy.  I have begun having a guessing game that all children participate in during the five weeks.  In the end, a name is drawn as the winner of a special prize.  The popcorn on the window was to measure group as a whole....one thing I learned though.....don't use scrapbooking tape on glass!  It took my forever to remove it!!

As far as a list of books, I would build on the 200's especially but add to all areas as well.  Eva Nell has always published lists of recommended books which is a good source.  Always read a childrens book before purchasing if possible....they don't always have the complete truth or I have caught partial truths or things our church does not believe.

When I was a school librarian at a Christian school (2003), I collected the Wally McDoogle books heavily.  Bill Myers is a respected childrens writer in the faith community, and the students loved the books! They were always the most circulated series in the library.
