Question about the Fablehaven series

Hello,

I had a middle grade boy approach me about bringing in the Fablehaven series by Brandon Mull.  

There are definitely mixed reviews online with regards to whether it is appropriate for Christians.  Some compare it to the Chronicles of Narnia, and I see that Angel Studies has purchased the rights to make a film.

However, there are some reviews say it is quite dark, and I want to get some more reviews from Christian librarians.  Are any of you familiar with this series?

    Published by Shadow Mountain Publishing which is Mormon/LDS.  That would not be a company then that we would buy books from.  I always refer to the public library when l know not a good fit for us.  I will even check the website for them.
