Hosting a reading

I've been considering hosting some type of reading event to draw people in.  Such as having our pastor and others read excerpts from books to encourage people to read them.  If any of you have ever done that, please share your ideas.  Did you have food?  Day or night? Was it a hit? Yada yada yada    Thanks

    I've done it in a school setting and community leaders love to help promote reading.
