CLM Collection Development: Book Repair

Church Library Ministry Collection Development

CHURCH LIBRARY MINISTRY BOOK REPAIR:

  • READ/CONFERENCE:  Read book care and repair guides found in major library catalogs (Example:  Demco at demco.com  AND/OR participate in a book repair conference.

  • INTERVIEW/VISIT two library team leaders to gather common repair and care tips. To find library team leaders, go to the Q&A page on the Church Librarians Network and ask about interviewing two team leaders.

  • DEVELOP a repair manual showing detailed steps for preventive care and repair. Include a comprehensive list of repair resource companies and a section for equipment warranties and manuals.

  • IMPLEMENT:  Designate an area in the library workroom, or prepare a storage box for repair supplies. Supplies include different types of tapes, scissors, book glue, rulers, etc. Place the repair manual in this repair area of the workroom. Include sticky notes or slips of paper that can be used during inventory or keep at the circulation desk so repair problems can be identified.

  • EVALUATE: After three months, evaluate how the repair manual is being used and make any revisions necessary. Inventory repair supplies on hand in the library and prepare a needs list. When you complete the review share your experiences on the CLN The Circle tab. Click here.
