"Rachel, let's look at the 248 number.  It represents the Christian life and how one is to live.  That includes men, women, married couples, etc.  The 306.8 refers to the marriage between two people.   If the book is…"

"I had a white binder with a clear cover sleeve so I put the cover in the front and punched the rest of the pages (I forgot to have them punch it so had to do 5 pages at a time at home lol!). Book download was $12 (Canadian) and printing close to $20…"

248 vs 305 or 306 - where do you put the family/individual person/books

We've made great progress on revamping our library, but I'm confused. I purchased the book A Classification System for Church Libraries and it's adding to my question. I'm making new spine labels for all our resources as in their current categories books/topics can be extremely difficult to locate. In the past, I had placed books on individuals (men, women, marriage, etc.) in the 248 section (248.8+ whatever other necessary decimals to keep them grouped properly). But I see that when I search…See More

"That's what I just did. Purchased online and immediately had it on my computer. I put it on an USB and printed it off at Staples as I much prefer a hard copy."

"I sure you have the answer you want, but if you ir you want to label the DVD disc itself, don't use adhesive labels. (You risk throwing the disc off balance and causing playback problems.) I suggest using that good old Sharpie ink pen on the…"

"We keep it pretty simple. DVD followed by the first three letter of the title, and J DVD and the first three letters, for the kids’ ones (and yes, we do put all Veggietales under VEG so they are shelved together). DVD’s which are…"

"I have a separate audio-visual section and my Concourse library software allows for this also.  So I usually keep it simple and just label with the particular AV type (dvd, cd, etc) and the next number in the sequence (DVD1, DVD 2, etc)."

How to Label DVDs ?

How to you label DVDs? Kids vs Adult section. But then I see comments about fiction and non fiction, Movie and Teaching What do you put on the spine? To keep Veggie Tales together for example, the letters would need to include VEG or they’ll be all mixed up. So, first line AF- DVD or ANF-DVD or CF-DVD or CNF-DVD?Secind line series title (first three letters) and if there isn’t one just the first three letters of the title?anything else? Series number?thank you!!See More

Culling and Removing Resources (restarting our library)

Hello Everyone! I joined the network this week and am thoroughly enjoying reading through the questions and posts. I have some experience with small church libraries - restarting them after first culling them, then adding the Dewey system and finally, relocating the library. All resources have been gone through (3 day process, 2-3 people, just over 2000 resources listed on the computer). We pulled out items we felt should be removed. My system was to check the copyright and anything over 20…See More
