Fall Conference Highlights
We had a successful fall conference thanks to our great conference leaders Carolyn Walker, Hope Ferguson, Allison Maynard and Karen Jones. We had 53 people registered who represented 32 churches from 6 different states and 15 of those were new who have never attended a VCLA conference before. These are some exciting numbers considering what we are hearing from other states. We welcome all of the new people and especially our new members to VCLA.
We had a book collection for the hurricane victims at the conference for those who would like to contribute. We asked each person to bring one new children’s book if they would like participate. As of today we have collected 167 books for all ages. We are working to get these books shipped to the Houston area. We have been in contact with one of our other church librarians there in Houston who is going to help with the distribution of these books.
VCLA members be on the lookout for a new newsletters in the coming months. This newsletter will be in addition to the spring and fall newsletter. Details are still being worked out but this newsletter will feature new releases for all ages for books, DVD’s and more. This newsletter will be another benefit for being a member.
Fall Conference Update / REVISED Fall NewsletterPlease check our website http://www.vacla.org/newsletters
We are pleased to announce that Hope Ferguson, Lifeway Church Library Ministry Consultant, will be joining us for the fall conference. We are very blessed to be able to have Carolyn and Hope, both from Lifeway, along with Allison, from Book Systems, Inc., as our conference leaders. While we have added additional classes that Hope will be teaching at the conference, we have also deleted a few classes that were originally being offered. Please review the new conference schedule, classes and class descriptions.
As a reminder, the early registration fee for VCLA members is $40 and non-members is $50 if you register by September 30. Registration increases to $60 for everyone starting October 1. Fee includes registration, dinner and lunch. Registration form can be found either on the last page of the newsletter or on our website www.vacla.org/newsletters
VCLA Scholarships are available for the fall conference for first-time conference attendees. These scholarships are intended to bring new church library workers to the conference for training and networking by offsetting some of the conference cost. This will also introduce them to everything VCLA has to offer. The scholarship form can be found on page 3 of the newsletter. The deadline to apply for a scholarship is September 15. Please encourage your new library staff members to come to the conference.
Tennessee would like to invite you to attend any of our Carnival of Ideas Training Events scheduled during September and October. Dates and locations are on the Ning Events Page and for a detailed listing of classes just go to www.tnbaptist.org and search for library! We would love to have you join us.
